Travel Diary: weekend in Milan - day 1
Duomo di Milano |
Hi Parisianos! I've spent 2 days in Italy last weekend and I thought it would be cool to prepare a small diary with some tips, some of my first thoughts and nice stuff I remarked at this beautiful city. I'll divide it in two posts, otherwise it will be toooo long to read!
Milan is one of the fashion capitals of Europe, along with Paris, and it's famous for its churches and its cuisine, and although it's a business city, you can do lots of shopping and it has a great nightlife! I wanna show you precisely how I enjoyed my two days in Milan, but first things first, let me give you key informations:
Where I've stayed?
The hotel I spent my two days was a 3 stars Hotel called Oasi Village. REALLY great service, yummy breakfast and pretty central, although Milan is a small city, so any hotel around the metro area is just fine. I was located at station Piola, line M2, green.
Where I've eated?
Two restaurants worth sharing: Il Tegamino and Caffé Dante Milano. In both a had a amazing service and food was freaking delicious!
Where I got drinks?
Because of course, I got drinks, hehe. Since I had just one night in Milan, I've tried two different bars at the Canal Area with my friends: Twist on Classic and EGO Cocktails e Distillati, and they were both a really good.
Useful (and funny) informations
- Don't feel bad or weird, italians stare A LOT. Not only men, but women too, they look at you from the bottom to the top, so be prepared for that feeling of being watched constantly, and just relax.
- If you want/need to communicate with friends/family while in Milan, I suggest buying and SIM Card at the airport at your arrival, and beautiful thing: internet works inside the metro, pure love! <3
- Maybe Paris thought me well, but the metro lines in Milan are small and pretty easy to use, grab a map at your hotel and explore the city using the metro, no need for cabs until, around, 23:30h.
Diary: Day 1
I took the first flight from Paris to Milan around 8am. Counting landing (1:20h flight), buying an italian SIM car and getting the bus (Malpensa Shutter - 16€ way-back) to downtown, leaving the luggage at the hotel, freshing up and leaving, it took me until 13h to start exploring the city, but I did everything calmly and since I was alone and had all the time in the world. :) I no guides to follow (haters gonna hate hehe) so I did this first day completely based on my feeling.
I arrived at Milano Centrale from the airport and took the metro straight to the hotel at Stazione Piola to change and leave my luggage. All set, I went straight to Duomo, at Piazza del Duomo (www.duomomilano.it). The cathedral is totally breathtaking, I could not help to open a big smile when arriving and seeing this:
All the details will drive you crazy, it's worth the whole trip! After taking a good walk around the beautiful gothic cathedral, I went for the second most fun part of the trip: food. Since I wanted to enjoy my walk and I was alone, I grabbed a Polenta at one of the many food carts around the streets and continued my passeggiata. It was time for some shopping: went back and forth in all directions of the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, one large street at the back of the Cathedral, with all kinds of stores. Took a quick pass to the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, a stunning gallery with all the top brands, including a gorgeous Prada store.

Around 18pm, tiredness caught up to me and I went back to the hotel to prepare for dinner. Left at 19:30h straight to Il Tegamino, a small and cozy restaurant I saw in Foursquare. Ordered my first pasta (al dente, always!) and almost got down on my knees to thank God, haha!
Pasta, silician wine and a S. Pellegrino equals a perfect dinner. |
After dinner, went to meet my great (local) friend Annalisa and she showed me a little of the Milan's nightlife: we got a bottle of Prosecco (my favorite drink in the whole world, sorry french champagnes!) at Twist in Classic and went for some different Mojitos at Ego Cocktails, both at the Canale area, a place near the center were it seemed all Milan was that day, great night!
After all this fun, time to go to bed, another day will start soon, with the family arriving from Venice and a lot more of Milano. Day two on the next post, darlings! Oh, and outfits coming soon too! Ciao!
Baci
